Mrs. Murphy, who resided with her son-in-law, Mr. James Looby on Madison Street, died last night. Mrs. Murphy is an old resident of Eau Claire and was highly esteemed. The funeral will be announced later.

The funeral of Mrs. Margaret Murphy takes place this afternoon at 1 o'clock from St. Patrick's Church. It was first stated at 1:30, which is not correct.

We, the undersigned, take this opportunity to thank the many kind friends and neighbors who assisted us during the illness of our mother, Mrs. Margaret Murphy, and who, at the subsequent death, attended the last sad rites. Respectfully, Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Looby, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Durand, Mrs. Bart Carey, Mrs. Julia Fuller. Eau Claire Wis., Jan. 29, 1900

Probate records for Margaret Murphy indicate that she was survived by four of her daughters: Josephine (Looby), Mary (Durand), Ellen (Nellie Carey) and Julia (Fuller). Her will also named two granddaughters: Lila Ralph and Margaret Looby, who were daughters of Maggie Murphy (Ralph/Looby). The will left her real estate to daughter, Josephine Looby and left $100 to each of the other heirs except Julia, who was left only $5. She named Josephine the executrix of her estate. The signing of her will was witnessed by Jeremiah Mahoney and James Fitzpatrick. The legal description of her land was as follows: "a piece of land commencing at a point which is north from the south east corner of the north east one forth of the south west one forth of section seventeen township twenty seven range nine, three hundred and fifty three feet and west sixty six feet thence running north sixty six feet and west one hundred and thirty two feet." The land was valued at $800. She also had three certificates of deposit adding to $500.
