In the 1870 United States Census for the Town of Oak Grove, Eau Claire County, Wisconsin, Jane and her family were living on or near the farm that had been owned by her father. From FindAGrave.com: Jane was born Dec. 8, 1845, died Oct. 21, 1893, in Sheridan Township, Dunn Co., and was buried in the Phillips family plot in Vanceburg Cemetery. Viola is also buried in the Phillips Family plot. Her gravestone is inscribed “Viola Dau. Of C. J. & J. Phillips Died Oct. 23, 1878, Aged 11 Y 5 M 13 D.” On an unknown date and location, but probably after his return from the Civil War, Jane married Charles Jesse Phillips. Charles was born Jan. 29, 1840, in Niagara Co., New York, son of John Morgen Phillips and Rebecca Weir. He died April 17, 1906, in Sheridan Twp., Dunn Co., Wis., aged 66 years, 2 months and 28 days, and was buried there besides the remains of his wife Jane in the Phillips Family plot in Vanceburg Cemetery. His gravestone is inscribed “Charles J. Phillips Jan. 29, 1840 Apr. 17, 1906.” Their known children were; Viola, b. 10 May 1867, died 23 Oct 1878 & Arthur P. Phillips, b. 16 May 1871. Viola is also buried in the Phillips Family plot. Her gravestone is inscribed “Viola Dau. Of C. J. & J. Phillips Died Oct. 23, 1878, Aged 11 Y 5 M 13 D.” |
