Shared note
|
At the time of the 1870 census she was living with her half-brother, William Ralph, in the Town of Oak Grove, Eau Claire County. When their father's estate was settled the executor, Mr. Andrew Sutherland, submitted a charge against the estate that included charges of $32.08 "Paid for clothing for Caroline Ralph" and $5.70 for "Doctors bill for Caroline Ralph" Although he was responsible for the care of all of Thomas's children, this is the only charge he claimed against the estate. In 1887 Thomas Ralph (Jr) was appointed guardian of Caroline Ralph, an "Incompetent." She died of heart failure on December 10, 1906; her death certificate shows her age as 61. Obituary published in the Eau Claire Leader on December 11, 1906: Mrs. Caroline Ralph - Mrs. Carolina Ralph of the Town of Union died on Monday, Dec. 10, 1906 at her home, of heart and lung trouble. She suffered very much but bore up bravely and with Christian fortitude and resignation. In her case death was a relief. About 7 o'clock Sunday evening the pain ceased and she passed away without a struggle. The funeral takes place at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday morning from the residence of Thos. Ralph, her brother. Rev. John McCoy will officiate. The deceased was 61 years, the greater part of which was spent in the Town of Union. She was a most exemplary woman and a kind and obliging neighbor. She is survived by a sister and a brother here, and some relatives in Fond du Lac. |
