In the 1870 census, Harriet is found living in the home of William and Ann Shuttleworth in the Town of Byran, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. Obituary published in the Eau Claire Leader on 12 March 1918: Miss Harriet Ralph, until ten years ago a resident of the Town of Union, died Sunday morning at Fond du Lac after a protracted illness. The late Miss Ralph was born at Lisbon, Waukesha county, in 1847. After 35 years residence there she moved to the Town of Union. The remains have been brought here and the funeral will be held this afternoon at 2:30 from Dean's undertaking parlors, where Rev. W.B. O'Neill will conduct services. Interment will be at Lakeview. [Note: Harriet actually moved to the Town of Clearwater, later known as Town of Union, area with her family in about 1855, at age 8.] Her death certificate shows that Harriet died at the Fond du Lac County asylum. She died of a broken neck and femur; contributing cause was "insanity." Although the death dertificate for anyone who died from violent causes is supposed to state the means and nature of the injury and whether it was accidental, suicidal, or homicidal, that information is not shown on her death certificate. |
