Shared note

The record of marriages from the Parish Church of Leeds, County of York, England, shows that Thomas Ralph and Ann Hopkins were married there on September 19, 1825. Thomas and Ann were both members of that Parish; Thomas was a farmer and Ann was a "spinster." Witnesses were Freda Petty and Robert Hargrave.

Records show that Thomas Ralph, age 28, a farmer and Ann Ralph, age 28, arrived at the Port of New York aboard the ship William Thompson on April 16, 1830. The ship departed from Liverpool, England.

Census records for the Town of Lisbon, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin Territory in 1840 show Thomas Ralph with a wife in the 30-40 age category, which would agree with the immigration record. It is known that Thomas' first wife was not with him by 1845, and the census records for Milwaukee in 1850, 1855, 1858, and 1860 contain a record for "Ann Ralph."

In the 1850 census record, Ann Ralph, age 44, has living with her an "Elizabeth Baldwin" whose age (20) makes it likely that she was the daughter of Thomas and his first wife. There is also a 3 year old child, Charles Baldwin, who is presumably the daughter of Elizabeth.
The 1855 census for Milwaukee shows "Mrs Ralph" living in the 1st ward.
The 1858 Milwaukee City Directory lists Ann Ralph, a "tailoress," living on Wisconsin Street, near Marshall.
The 1860 census for Milwaukee's 4th Ward list Ann Ralph, age 52, born in Leeds, England. Her occupation is listed as "Intelligence Officer." Living with her is 28 year old Ellen Kesler, a seamstress, born in Ireland.
No record of Ann Ralph can be found after 1860.
